Umbrella organisations of local level urge govt to fix date of local level elections at earliest
KATHMANDU: National Association of Rural Municipalities Nepal, Municipal Association of Nepal and District Coordination Committee Federation have demanded that the government immediately start the process of holding the local level elections.
Issuing a joint statement on Monday, the chairman of all the three associations have said that the local level elections should be held on time as the tenure of the elected people’s representatives is expiring soon.
They said that the constitution has not imagined the local level without representatives. It will have a negative impact on democracy and the federal system if the elections are not held on time, the statement read.
The statement was signed by the Municipal Association of Nepal Ashok Kumar Byaju Shrestha, the National Association of Rural Municipalities Nepal Chairman Hem Narayan Shrestha and the District Coordination Committee Federation Chairman Nawaraj Gelal.
