Nepal to provide humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan

KATHMANDU: The Nepal government has decided to provide humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, which has been facing humanitarian crisis after the Taliban took control of the country on August 15, 2021.

A Nepali team will fly to Afghanistan on Sunday to provide humanitarian aid.

According to Sewa Lamsal, spokesperson at the Foreign Ministry, the team will leave Kathmandu for Afghanistan on a chartered flight of Himalayan Airlines tomorrow morning.

Nepal has decided to provide humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan as the current chair of the SAARC, Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka said. Afghanistan is one of the member states of SAARC.

Earlier, the United Nation had urged the member states to Afghanistan. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres had appealed for the assistance.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) handed over medicines worth Rs 2.3 million to Afghanistan through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
