14 road construction workers trapped in snow in East Rukum

SURKHET: As many as 14 road construction workers have been trapped in snow at Ghusdung in Pelma of Puthauttarganga, East Rukum.

They have been staying in a cave for the past seven days following a heavy snowfall.

Jok Prasad Budha, Aunsi Budha, Bishal Budha, Dayalakh Kami, Ramajit Kami, Jani Budha, Krishna Budha, Deepak Kami, Sunil Jhankri, Jun Devi Jhankri, Prem Bahadur Kami, Bahadur Budha, Nabin Budha and Nanten Pun have been spending painful days in the cave.

“We got the information that they were trapped in the snow only on Sunday,” Ward member Manram Jhankri said.

Chief District Officer Laxmi Prasad Baskot of East Rukum said that preparations are being made to rescue them.

“We have urged the Home Ministry and Province Ministry to send a helicopter to rescue the trapped workers. We will rescue them today itself,” he said.

CDO Baskot said that a helicopter has been kept on standby in Surkhet for the same.
