7 injured as police open fire at vote counting venue in Pyuthan

KATHMANDU: At least seven persons were injured when police open fire at the vote counting venue of the district convention in Pyuthan under the 14th general convention of the Nepali Congress on Tuesday.

Police said that they had to open fire after a group of youths hurled stones at the vote continuing venue in Swargadwari Campus after Bijay Kumar Giri of Ram Chandra Paudel faction took lead in the vote counting.

Police lobbed seven rounds of tear gas canisters to take the situation under control.

It has been learnt that seven persons including two police personnel were injured in the incident. They are undergoing treatment at the District Hospital.

Vote counting has been put off follow the incident.
