5 killed, 14 injured in Okhaldhunga jeep accident

OKHALDHUNGA: At least five persons died and 14 others were injured when a Bolero jeep met with an accident at Sikaridanda in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality-9, Okhaldhunga on Monday.

Govinda Raj Kafle, Chief the District Police Office, Okhaldhunga said that Mithumaya Magar (35), Betini Rupse, Tulasa Magar (17) of Siddhicharan Municipality-10 died on the spot while Khagenera Magar and another whose identity is yet to be established breathed their last during the course of treatment.

The jeep (Province-3 01022 Cha 9694) carrying a group of revellers was heading towards Champadevi Kakani Temple to offer worship and to attend Ekadashi fair, Kafle said.

The incident occured when the jeep fell some 600 metres down the road this morning.

Those critically injured in the incident were airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment, Ward Chairman of Sunkoshi-9 Janak Kumar Karki said.

Those who sustained minor injuries are undergoing treatment at the Okhaldhunga Community Hospital, he said.
