Man arrested on human trafficking charge

KATHMANDU: Police have apprehended a man for his alleged involvement in trafficking a woman to Bangkok with promises of a lucrative job at a hotel in Belgium.

Rajendra Khadka (44) of Galkot Municipality-4, Baglung was arrested from Sinamangal, Kathmandu.

Issuing a statement on Monday, the Anti Human Trafficking Bureau (AHTB) said that Khadka had convinced the woman that he would take her to Belgium for a job but was taken to Bangkok.

The Bureau said that Khadka sold the woman two years ago with promises of a lucrative job at a hotel in Belgium, taking over Rs 800,000 in different dates.

It has been found that the woman was also taken to Cambodia.

Police said that she managed to come to Nepal with the help of her relatives a year ago.

Soon after she reached Nepal, she filed a complaint against Khadka with the police.

Based on the complaint, a police team deployed from the Bureau rounded up Khadka, who was on the run, from his hideout.

SP Anurag Dwivedi said that Khadka has been remanded to four days in police custody for the interrogation under the Human Trafficking and Transportation (Control) Act, 2064 .
