SAFF Championship: Nepal to lock horns against India for title today

KATHMANDU: Nepal are locking their horns against India in the final of the 13th edition of the SAFF Championship on Saturday.

Nepal entered the final of the SAFF Championship for the first time while India have won the title seven times.

India, who were held to a draw in the first two matches, advanced to the final after winning the last two matches while Nepal won the first two games and were defeated at the hands of India in the third match.

Nepal reached the final by holding Bangladesh to a draw in the last match of the regional tournament.

Nepal will play the final match against South Asian giant in Male, Maldives at 8:45 pm Nepali time.

India is a stronger team than Nepal on head to head basis. But, Nepal is expected to enter the final with high morale.

Meanwhile, Nepal national football team head coach Abdullah Almutairi on Wednesday said that he would step down after the SAFF Championship final.

It will be a historic success for Nepal if the team wins the SAFF Championship title today.

This is the 12th time that India are playing in the final of the SAFF Championship.

The worst performance for the seven-time champion India was the third-place finish in 2003.
