Voice of Nepal 3rd edition winner Kiran Gajmer deported from TIA

KATHMANDU: Kiran Gajmer, winner of the third edition of Voice of Nepal, one of the most popular singing reality shows of Nepal, has been barred from entering Nepal.

The Department of Immigration on Monday deported him from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) for overstaying his visa validity period.

Gajmer, who came to Nepal as a Bhutanese refugee, has been living in the United States for the past few years.

He took part in the Voice of Nepal by receiving an on-arrival visa from the airport.

Talking to NepalPress over phone, Sishir Baidhya, Officer at the Department of Immigration, confirmed that Gajmer was deported from the airport.

“He stayed in Nepal for 270 days on a tourist visa. Tourists are allowed to stay in Nepal only for 150 days on tourist visas,” he said.

According to Baidhya, Gajmer had stayed 130 days longer than the visa period.

He came to Nepal from the United States on a Qatar Airlines aircraft (QR 650) on Monday. He was enquired by the Department of Immigration soon after he landed at the airport.

“He came here without consulting us. That is why he was sent back to the United States on the same aircraft,” Baidhya said.

The Department of Immigration said that he will be allowed to come to Nepal only in January 2022.
