Ordinance on political parties tabled at House amid protest
KATHMANDU: The government on Wednesday tabled an ordinance related to political parties amid protest from the main opposition CPN-UML lawmakers.
Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand tabled the ordinance on behalf of the government.
Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota read out a letter of the President, informing about beginning of the session.
Similarly, he also nominated the members to chair the meeting of House of Representatives.The meeting was adjourned twice due to the obstruction of the UML lawmakers.
During the first meeting, UML Whip Bishal Bhattarai protested against the issuance of the ordinance to amend Political Parties Act 2071. President Bidya Devi Bhandari on August 18 issued the ordinance on the recommendation of the government as per Article 114 (1) of the constitution of Nepal.
The government brought the ordinance to help Madhav Nepal-Jhalanath Khanal faction to split the party. This has also helped the Mahanta Thakur- Rajendra Mahato faction of Janata Samajbadi Party- Nepal to split the party.
