NC general convention: Party deploys election representatives in 38 districts

KATHMANDU: The Central Election Committee of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has deployed its election representatives in 38 districts. The Committee deployed the representatives in the 38 districts to hold ward-level and district-level conventions across the country on September 3.

The representatives have been given a list of active members of those districts, election guidelines and necessary training.

According to Election Committee member Gopal Krishna Ghimire, the representatives were deployed as per the list of active members provided by the Central Committee of the party.

Talking to Nepal Press, Ghimire said, “Our responsibility is to hold elections in all the districts. At present, we have deployed representatives in 38 districts by providing training. The representatives will also be deployed in other districts once the party gives the voter list.”

With only a week left for the ward convention, there is a slim chance of holding the convention in all the districts at the same time as representatives have been deployed only in half of the districts so far, Ghimire said.

Though the dispute over the active membership has been resolved in principle, practical problems have started to surface in the party.

The district presidents have been staging demonstrations for the past few days demanding to make public the list of active membership.

The list of 38 districts made available to the Election Committee has also been made public on the website of Nepali Congress.
