Govt recommends Prez to appoint Sharma as new army chief

KATHMANDU: The government on Thursday recommended President Bidya Devi Bhandari to appoint Lt GenPrabhu Ram Sharma as the new army chief.

A Cabinet meeting held this afternoon decided to recommend the President to appoint Sharma as the Chief of Army Staff.

Sharma will take over the post  after incumbent army chief Purna Chandra Thapa retires on September 10.

According to the practice of taking leave one month before the retirement, Thapa had been  on leave since July 10.

Earlier on August 1, President Bhandari had appointed Sharma as the acting Chief of Army Staff.
