Election Security discussed at Security Council Meeting

KATHMANDU: A regular meeting of the National Security Council has been held today under the Chairmanship of Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Security Council KP Sharma Oli.

The meeting held at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar focused on the overall security situation in the country, election security and other issues.

The meeting was attended by Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel, Chief Secretary Shankar Das Bairagi and Chief of Army Staff Purnachandra Thapa, according to a ministry source.

There is a constitutional provision for the Prime Minister to be chaired by the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defense, Home, Foreign Affairs and Finance, and the Chief Secretary and the Chief of Army Staff to formulate policies related to Nepal’s overall national interest, security and defense, and to recommend to the government to operate and control the army.

There is a constitutional provision that the Council headed by the Secretary of the Ministry of Defense will submit its annual report to the President and the report will be submitted to the Federal Parliament through the Prime Minister for discussion.
