UML’s SC meeting proposes party to pick chairman, general secy thru elections

KATHMANDU: The Standing Committee meeting of the establishment faction of the CPN-UML led by KP Sharma Oli endorsed the statute amendment proposal on Monday.

A meeting held at the Tulsilal Memorial Foundation, Lalitpur this afternoon approved the party statute amendment proposal, UML Vice-Chairman Bamdev Gautam said.

The party had formed a task force under the coordination of Deputy General Secretary and Organisation Department Chief Bishnu Paudel.

Earlier, office Secretary Sher Bahadur Tamang had tabled the statute amendment proposal at the Central Committee.

According to him, the new statute will remove the provision of having politburo and alternate central members. It, however, will have the provision of office bearers, standing committee and central members.

Tamang further said that chairman and general secretary will be picked through the votes of general convention representatives.

Similarly, the meeting has also proposed to increase the number of Central Committee members.                                                                   The proposal also proposes to have a 225-central committee.
