SC upholds UML’s action against 4 Karnali lawmakers

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has upheld the decision of the CPN-UML to take action against four of its lawmakers in Karnali Province.

Responding to a vacate application filed by party Chairman KP Sharma Oli, a joint bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana and Justice Prakash Kumar Dhungana on Monday delivered the verdict in support of Oli.

In the verdict, the apex court stated that the lawmakers’ decision to protect the government of CPN-Maoist Centre by crossing the floor against the decision of the Parliament Party was not in line with the democratic norms and values.

Earlier, the UML had expelled Prakash Jwala, Ambar Thapa, Kurmaraj Shahi and Nanda Singh Buda from the party for supporting the CPN-Maoist Centre.

The bench has also quashed the interim order issued by Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut for their reinstatement.

Later, UML Chair Oli moved the Supreme Court against the interim order.
