Nine “Himali Hero” felicitated in Kathmandu; Nirmal Purja heads to Indonesia to climb Carstensz Pyramid

KATHMANDU: Nirmal Purja, the famous mountaineer who set three records of mountain climbing in one season, returned to Kathmandu on Tuesday.

Upon his arrival at the airport, he received appreciation from the government and the people and headed to Indonesia to climb Puncak Jaya or Carstensz Pyramid.

Purja sets three new world records on the world’s highest peaks in just five days.

On 4th October 2024 the British- Nepali mountaineer, former Gurkha and UKSF, stood on the summit of Shishapangma with legendary Nepali climber *Mingma G and his rope fixing team. * They both completed their missions to climb the 14 highest peaks in the world without supplementary oxygen.

Meanwhile, the Nepal Tourism Board honored nine climbers who successfully climbed all 14 mountains in the presence of Tourism Minister Badri Pandey.

Along with Purja, Tejan Gurung, Pasang Tendi Sherpa, Mingma Ji Sherpa, Dawa Gyalje Sherpa, Dawa Yangjum Sherpa, Nima Rinji Sherpa, Pasang Nurbu Sherpa and Mingtemba Sherpa had climbed 14 mountains without oxygen.
