Locals protest against road construction in No-Man’s land

BANIYANI: Locals of Gherabari, Kachankawal Rural Municipality-1 in Jhapa have protested after Indian citizens started constructing the road in the No-Man’s Land (Dasgaja) area on Nepal-India border.

Ranjit Limbu, Ward chair of Kachankawal-1, said that the road construction has been halted since last night.

“When we found out that Indian citizens were digging the road in No-Man’s Land, we stopped it,” he said, adding that the road was being constructed overnight when no one was around there.

According to him, around 150 metres of the road has been constructed at that place.

He said that about 400 metres of road has been prepared from the ward office of Kachankawal-1 to No-Man’s Land.

Chief District Officer of Jhapa, Bandhu Prasad Bastola, said that there was a dispute between the two parties after the road was dug near No-man’s land.
