7000 doses of Remdesivir arrive in Kathmandu from Dhaka, distribution to hospitals begins today

KATHMANDU: Seven thousand doses of Remdesivir, a drug used to treat coronavirus infections, have arrived in Kathmandu from Bangladesh today.

According to the Department of Drug Administration, the distribution will begin from today. Spokesperson of the Department Santosh KC informed that additional doses will arrive in Nepal tomorrow.

The department has stated that the drug was brought to Nepal as the number of people infected with covid is increasing and so is the demand for the drug. He also informed that the distribution of this medicine has started from 3 PM.

He informed that preparations are being made to send the medicine to COVID hospitals in Kathmandu and the provinces. KC informed that the medicine was brought on the initiative of an official importer based in Nepal. 

Health Minister Hridayesh Tripathi said on Saturday that the much-needed medicine for COVID would arrive in Kathmandu in a few days. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli also addressed the nation on Monday and said that the procurement process to bring vaccines from China and Russia has begun.
