Former minister Sah’s advisor Neupane nabbed for human trafficking

BIRATNAGAR: Buddhiraj Neupane, political advisor of former Minister for General Administration Anita Devi Sah of Janamat Party, has been arrested on the charge of human trafficking.

Neupane, a permanent resident of Kamal Rural Municipality-1, Jhapa, was nabbed from Gaurighat, Gokarneshwor-7.

Neupane, President of Nepali Congress Kamal Rural Municipality, joined the Janamat Party after the party took action against him.

He was appointed as the political advisor of Anita Devi in a short period of time.

Neupane had sent a woman to Mauritius with a promise to provide a job of Rs 70, 000 per month and green card.

He had taken Rs 250, 000 from the woman for the same, SP Gautam Mishra, spokesperson at the Human Trafficking Investigation Bureau, said.

According to Mishra, Neupane had sent the women to Mauritius via India on January 26.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Neupane, who had promised the woman to provide a green card, sold her to a national of Mauritius.

The Bureau said that the girl was sent to a house in Mauritius as a domestic worker.

She fled to Portugal after the landlord tortured her mentally and physically, according to the Bureau.

The woman returned to Nepal with the help of Nepalis living in Portugal.

Soon after she landed in Nepal, she filed a complaint against Neupane.

SP Mishra informed that Neupane was arrested based on the complaint filed by the woman.

Neupane had also worked in the Secretariat of Nepali Congress leader Krishna Sitaula.
