Lamichhane urges parties to allow House to function by ending ongoing series of blame games

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Rabi Lamichhane has urged the political parties to move ahead by ending the ongoing series of blame games.

Putting his views in today’s House of Representatives (HoR) meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister said that all political parties should be responsible for running the House business in a dignified manner and added that development of a situation creating clashes in Parliament was not expected. “Let’s all get responsible to create hope and confidence in the country. Hooliganism cannot run Parliament,” he added.

He was of the view that the parliamentary probe committee over the misappropriation of cooperatives’ funds should be formed aimed at addressing the overall issues instead of focusing on an individual.

In his speech, the Deputy Prime Minister denied the allegations levelled against him by the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) on his involvement in the misappropriation of funds from different cooperatives. “No case has been lodged against me over the issue of cooperatives. No one has charged me while recording the statements,” he said.

On the occasion, Lamichhane said that the main opposition party was rigid on the ToR of the probe committee and consensus could not be forged after the opposition party took a stance on initiating a probe over an individual.

Lamichhane also challenged the main opposition party to form the parliamentary probe committee by discarding his party.

Lamichhane, who is also the Chairman of the newly-formed Rastriya Swatantra Party, said that the rise of the RSP was unacceptable to the Nepali Congress having a long parliamentary history.

He said that efforts were made to strangulate the newly-formed RSP.

In his speech, Lamichhane said that the government was always ready to troubleshoot the challenges in the cooperative sector rather than being focused on an individual.

Likewise, Lamichhane urged the opposition party to facilitate the law-making process stating that laws could be drafted from the ongoing House session to resolve the problems in the cooperative sector.

The next meeting of the HoR is scheduled for Monday.
