Year 2023 has become a milestone in the history of Nepal-India relations: Shrivastava (With video)

KATHMANDU: An Indian official has said that Nepal-India ties have improved significantly in 2023.

Prasanna Shrivastava, first secretary at the Kathmandu-based Indian Embassy, said that the past one year has become a milestone in the history of Nepal-India relations.

During a programme jointly organised by Nepal India Human Development and Friendship Association, Nepal India Friendship Hospital, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-8 and Nepal Agriculture Cooperative Central Federation Ltd at Mitra Park on Monday, he made it clear that Nepal is in the priority in the Indian government’s policy of neighbour first.

Saying that there has been good progress between the two countries in political, economic, commercial and development partnership in the last year, he said that the two countries should support each other to progress together.

The Indian official further said that high level visits have been made from both countries this year and many agreements have also been signed.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to India made important decisions and agreements.

A new agreement of cooperation has been signed on infrastructure, connectivity and energy.

Taking this decision ahead, India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar visited Nepal at the invitation of Nepal’s Foreign Minister NP Saud.

Nepal and India have worked together even in hard times.

India immediately extended after the devastating Gorkha earthquake and completed more than 100 reconstruction projects in the last year alone and handed over to Nepal.

India provided immediate assistance to Nepal when an earthquake hit Jajarkot in November. Following the earthquake, Indian External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said that India is ready to work together with Nepal in the reconstruction works.

Shrivastava said that Nepal and India have also worked together on international issues in recent years.

He clarified that India is ready to cooperate with Nepal for the development of every sector.
