“MCC will not be implemented until interpretative declaration is made part of the agreement”
KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre), which has been leading the government, General Secretary Dev Gurung said that the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact will not go into implementation if the imperative declaration is not accepted.
He said so as the US has not accepted a 12-point interpretative declaration of the MCC yet.
A debate has surfaced again as the MCC will formally go into implementation from today.
Taking to Facebook, Gurung, who has been advocating against the MCC since the beginning, said, “The MCC Compact with a 12-point interpretative declaration was endorsed by the Parliament of Nepal on February 27, 2022. At that time, ministers and leaders from the rostrum of the Parliament had said that the 12-point interpretative declaration should be accepted and made part of the MCC agreement and the MCC will not be implemented until the 12-point declaration is accepted. But the American MCC Company has not accepted the 12-point interpretative declaration till today.”
He said that the issue of implementing the MCC project is being raised without mentioning the 12-point condition.
“The Maoist Centre’s has a clear opinion that the MCC will not be implemented until the 12-point declaration is made part of the MCC Compact,” Gurung said.
