Indian Foreign Secretary Kwatra arrives in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra arrived in Kathmandu on a two-day visit to Nepal on Monday.

He arrived in Kathmandu at the invitation of Foreign Secretary Bharat Raj Poudel, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Poudel along with the officials of the Foreign Ministry welcomed him at the Tribhuvan International Airport.

He is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and leaders of various political parties today and tomorrow.

Kwatra will also take part in the Nepal-India secretary-level meeting.

The meeting will discuss connectivity, electricity trade, agriculture and health among other issues.

During his stay in Nepal, Kwatra will hold a bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister Bimala Rai Paudyal.

It has been learnt that Kwatra will extend a formal invitation to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to visit India on behalf of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He is scheduled to meet CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli today itself.

Kwatra will meet Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Tuesday.

The former Indian Ambassador to Nepal will return to India after paying a courtesy call on President Bidya Devi Bhandari tomorrow.

This is the first visit of Kwatra to Nepal since he assumed charge.
