Rastriya Swatantra Party to quit government

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party has decided to quit the government.

The party took the bold decision after Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal refused to appoint party President Rabi Lamichhane as the Home Minister again.

A Central Committee meeting of the party held on Sunday decided to quit the party.

The meeting, however, decided not to withdraw the support extended to the government.

Lamichhane was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister on December 26.

Lamichhane’s position as lawmaker was revoked after the Supreme Court declared his citizenship illegal.

Following the decision, Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Dol Prasad Aryal, Minister for Education Shishir Khanal and State Minister for Health Toshima Karki will resign from the government.
