Himalaya Shumsher Rana, first governor of NRB, passes away

KATHMANDU: Himalaya Shumsher Rana, the first governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, passed away on Sunday. He was 95.

Rana breathed his last in course course of treatment at the Thapathali-based Norvic Hospital at 6: 30 am today.

After his retirement from the Nepal Rastra Bank, he established Gorkha Brewery Company and brought international beer brands like Tuborg and Carlsberg to Nepal.

Rana the founder of the first private bank of Nepal, was honoured with the title of The Order of Japan (The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star) in recognition of his outstanding contribution.
