We saved the country from becoming failed state by signing peace agreement, claims Dahal (With video)
KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal claimed that they have saved the country from becoming a failed state by signing a peace agreement.
Addressing an election assembly at Raisan in Lamjung on Monday, the former prime minister said that the country would have to face the fate like that of Afghanistan had there been no comprehensive peace accord.
“What would have happened to the country if we had not signed the peace agreement?” he questioned.
”We have been saying that 17, 000 people lost their lives in the decade-long Maoist insurgency. Many became the victims,” he said, adding, “If the Nepali Congress and the CPN (Maoist Centre) did not reach a peace agreement then, the country would have to go through a difficult situation.”
The Maoist supremo said that peace would prevail in the country if the parties competing against each other come to one point.
Millions of people would have lost their lives had there been no peace agreement between the Nepali Congress and the CPN (Maoist Centre).
Nepal was saved from being a failed nation after the then Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koiral and I signed the agreement, he claimed.
He further expressed his confidence that the remaining works of the peace process will be completed soon.
