Justice Sharma to hear writs filed against Prez Bhandari demanding authentication Citizenship Bill

KATHMANDU:  A single bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Sharma will hear the writ petitions filed at the Supreme Court demanding a directive against President Bidya Devi Bhandari to authenticate the Citizenship Bill.

As many as five writ petitions were filed at the apex court on Thursday against President’s refusal to certify the Citizenship Bill.

The Office of the President has been named as the defendant in the petition.

The writ petition argues that the Constitution has been violated after the President did not certify the Citizenship Bill passed by the Federal Parliament for the second time.

As per Clause (4) of Article 113 of the Constitution the President shall certify a bill within 15 days of its submission after it has been resubmitted by the government.
