Ruling coalition agrees not to extend tenure of Parliament: Dahal (With video)

KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the ruling coalition parties have agreed not to extend the tenure of the Parliament.

Dahal, who reached Dhangadhi to attend a program on Tuesday morning, said that the proposal to extend the tenure of the Parliament will be withdrawn today itself.

The government was criticized widely after it made a plan to extend the term of the House by amending some laws.

The Election Commission has already opposed the government’s plan to amend the laws to extend the tenure of the Parliament.

“Ruling coalition leaders have been holding discussions that the tenure of the Parliament should not be extended. The elections will be held on November 20,” Dahal said, adding, “The tenure of the Parliament will end a day before the filing of nomination. It should be clear that there will not be any confusion.”

Though the government was trying to extend the term of the House of Representatives due to some technical reasons, he said that the government should not create confusion prior to the elections.

The Maoist Chairman claimed that the local level elections and the upcoming parliamentary and provincial elections have protected the constitution.
