Election update: Over 141,000 candidacies filed for local level elections
As many as 141,468 candidacies were filed for various posts for the upcoming local level election scheduled for May 13. The Election Commission (EC) shared an update at 10:30 am today.
The latest updates show 22,194 candidacies (Province 1), 36,275 (Madhesh Province), 23,654 (Bagmati Province), 12,314 (Gandaki Province), 22,421 (Lumbini Province), 12,848 (Karnali Province) and 11,762 (Sudurpaschim Province) have been registered for the local poll going to be held in a single phase.
Likewise, three thousand 318 candidacies are for the posts of the mayor of municipalities, sub-metropolises and metropolises and 2,036 are for deputy mayors while 3,306 are for chairs of rural municipalities and 2,343 are for vice-chairs. As the EC said, 33 thousand 111 nominations are for the ward chair. It reports the registrations of 24 thousand 283 candidacies for women members, 21 thousand 979 for dalit women members and 51 thousand 92 candidacies are for the members.
The election is taking place at 753 local levels on May 13 for 35 thousand 221 posts including mayor, deputy-mayor, chairman and vice-chairman, six thousand 743 ward chairpersons, same number of women members and dalit women members and 13 thousand 483 members.
Candidacies were filed in an enthusiastic manner at the office of the Election Officers established at the local level across the nation on Sunday and Monday. There is a schedule to file a complaint against the candidates today.
The nomination paper would be verified and decision would be taken against the complaint after carrying out an investigation on it on April 27 and 28.
Similarly, there is a schedule to publish the name list of candidates on May 28.
Likewise, candidates could withdraw their candidacies and the final list of the candidates would be published on April 29. RSS
Over 137,000 candidacies filed for local level elections: EC
KATHMANDU: More than 137,000 candidacies were filed for various posts for the upcoming local level election scheduled for May 13. The Election Commission (EC) shared an update this morning.
According to the poll body, as many as 137, 043 persons filed their candidacies for various posts including the mayor, deputy mayor, chairperson and members.
The EC made public the final data on the nomination at 7:30 am today. As per the final update, 3,276 candidacies were for the chair/mayor post and 2,009 for the deputy mayor/vice-chair post in rural/municipalities.
Similarly, 32,217 were registered as the candidates for ward chairs while 23,521 as women members, 21,221 as Dalit women members, and 49,239 as ward members.
For the total of 35,221 posts at 753 local levels, the country is holding the local level election on May 13.
The nomination filing occurred in an encouraging atmosphere on Sunday and Monday throughout the country.
The EC has slated today (April 26) as the day to receive objections to the candidacies.
Investigation of the complaints/objection would be done on April 27 and 28. It would be followed by the publication of the candidate name list. On April 29, there will be withdrawal of nomination, if anyone wants, and then final publication of candidate name list.RSS
