Commission to update the voter list in the second week of Magh to prepare for election

In order to prepare the final voter list for the upcoming election of the House of Representatives, the voter list update program is being conducted in all the local level centers from 15th to 21st Magh.

According to the Election Commission, the final voter list for the election containing names of citizens who have crossed 18 years of age will be updated on Poush 5. The first phase of the election of the House of Representatives has been announced as 17th Baisakh and the second phase as 27th Baisakh.

According to the Voter Registration Act, 2073 BS, the registration of voters has been postponed from 6th Poush as per the arrangement of registering or not registering names in the voters list after the date of the election has been announced, as informed by the spokesperson of the Election Commission, Raj Kumar Shrestha.

Only those who have completed 18 years of age by 5th Poush and have registered their names in the voters’ roll can become voters in the upcoming election. The Commission has requested all to go to the concerned local level centers during the given period to apply for the correction of errors in the voter list and to remove the names of the voters who have died or migrated or have duplicate names.

The commission has also requested all voters to file a complaint against those who have given false details in the voters list. The Commission has requested all local levels, political parties, civil society, journalists and concerned parties to provide necessary assistance in the voter registration update program.
