NEA to buy electricity from India at Rs 38 per unit (With video)

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has decided to purchase electricity from India at a high price.

India has raised the price unnaturally citing the Ukraine crisis.

According to the NEA, Nepal has agreed to buy electricity from India at INR 20 (Rs 38) per unit.

Suresh Bahadur Bhattarai, the spokesperson at the NEA, said that India’s electricity would be available in Nepal from 12:15 pm on Thursday.

Bhattarai said that Nepal had imported 800 MW of electricity from India during the same time last year.

Nepal has been importing only 350 MW of electricity from India now.

The NEA said that the supply will be resumed by giving electricity purchased from India to the industries.

The NEA had cut off electricity to industries due to power shortages.
