Dr Guna Raj Lohani’s transfer to Bir Hospital cancelled

KATHMANDU: The government on Thursday revoked the transfer of Dr Guna Raj Lohani to the Bir Hospital, the oldest medical facility in the country.

Dr Lohani’s transfer was cancelled at the direction of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. Health Minister Birodh Khatiwada on Tuesday transferred Lohani as the administrative head of Covid Unified, Bir Hospital.

Earlier on Wednesday, the hospital staffers staged a demonstration on the premises of the medical facility to stop Dr Lohani from entering the office.

Nepali Congress leaders had also drawn the attention of Prime Minister Deuba arguing that the health minister transferred Dr Lohani without taking consent of the Prime Minister.

Now, Dr Bhupendra Basnet will be the Acting Chief Executive Officer of COVID-19 Unified Central Hospital in Bir Hospital.

After Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel expressed his dissatisfaction over the transfer of Dr Lohani to the Bir Hospital, leaders of the ruling coalition had held a meeting on the issue, a source said.
