Chief Justice Rana discharged from hospital, Karki’s attempt to become acting Chief Justice failed

KATHMANDU: Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana has been discharged from the hospital on Friday.

Rana, who was admitted at the Armed Police Force Hospital in Balambu after he was tested positive for the Covid-19 on November 29, was discharged at 9 am today, the hospital said.

According to a family source, he will take rest in the home and will resume office from Sunday.

Meanwhile, senior most justice of the Supreme Court Deepak Kumar Karki’s attempt to form a constitutional bench by being an acting Chief Justice when Rana was in the hospital has failed.

After the Nepal Bar Association continued to protest demanding resignation of Chief Justice Rana and Karki be appointed as the acting Chief Justice, the court proceedings have been affected yet again though disgruntled justices of the Supreme Court drew lotteries to conduct hearing of all types of cases.

Earlier on Thursday, the ruling coalition had suggested the Chief Justice to go on leave and depute Karki as the acting Chief Justice.
