NRNA 10th General Convention put off, Working Committee to hold elections within 6 months
KATHMANDU: Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Global Conference and 10th General Assembly have been postponed.
Talking to Nepal Press over phone, senior vice-chairman Badri KC said that the elections will not be held on the stipulated date.
He said that the term of the current Working Committee will be extended in order to hold the elections within the next six months.
“The elections will not be held on the stipulated date as the Ministry of Foregin Affairs directed us to not hold the elections for now. A meeting of the ICC to be held next week will take the official decision on the matter,” he said.
The NRNA Global Conference and 10th General Assembly were scheduled to be held on October 23-25.
General Secretary Hem Raj Sharma said that the elections had been postponed following the letter of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“The letter of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs compelled us to postpone the elections. A meeting of the ICC will take the decision on the issue,” he said.
The Ministry of Foregin Affairs last month formed a task force after it received complaints of vote rigging in elections held in around a dozen countries.
The Ministry wrote the letter as per the report prepared by the taskforce.
