It was declared to celebrate the Day making the people around the world realize the importance of happiness and well-being in their lives.
The resolution to mark the Day was initiated by Bhutan, a country that recognized the value of gross national happiness over gross national income since early 1970s as well as adopted national happiness as the goal.
