KATHMANDU: The full text of the decision made by the Supreme Court in the case of billions of tax evasion committed by Internet service provider Worldlink has been published.
Worldlink is yet to pay nearly 2 billion in taxes to the government.
A division bench of Justices Hari Prasad Phuyal and Nahakul Subedi held that the letter sent by the Nepal Telecommunications Authority, directing Worldlink to pay the remaining taxes from the fiscal year 2012/13 to 2022/23 was lawful.
The Telecommunications Authority on March 27 had sent the notice to Worldlink to pay the remaining amount.
The letter had stated that the internet service license of Worldlink would not be renewed if the amount is not paid.
Saying that the letter sent by the Telecommunications Authority to pay the amount was against the law, Worldlink had moved the Supreme Court against the authority.
On October 13, 2023, the Public Accounts Committee of the Parliament had directed the concerned authorities to collect any kind of revenue to be paid by the telecom service providers to the government within three months.
Nepal Press has exposed the issue of tax evasion by Worldlink and has been following up continuously.
