Nirmal Purja and Mingma G Sherpa set new record by climbing 14 mountains without oxygen

KATHMANDU: A famed mountaineer Nirmal Purja, aka Nimsdai and Mingma G Sherpa set a new record by climbing 14 mountains of the world without oxygen.

Both the climbers successfully climbed Mt Shishapangma (8, 027 metres) without oxygen on Friday afternoon according to Tibetan time.

Talking to Nepal Press over phone after the successful ascent, Purja said that they set the first Nepali record by climbing 14 mountains without oxygen.

He said that they have shown the world the power of unity and healthy competition.

They had already climbed 13 mountains higher than 8, 000 metres without oxygen. Shishapangma is the 14th mountain.

Purja has already climbed the mountains higher than 8, 000 metres of the world 49 times.
