President Poudel presents Guinness World Record certificate to Surendra Rai and Susan Tamang

KATHMANDU:  President Ram Chandra Poudel presented the Guinness World Record’s certificate to Surendra Rai and Susan Tamang on September 11, 2024.

With the support of Gokarneshwar Municipality, Gokarneshwar Municipality Ward No. 8, and Shikhar Chhahari Sanskritik kala kendra, Surendra Rai and Susan Tamang successfully registered their names in the Guinness Book of World Records by setting a new world record. Representing Nepal, this duo performed choreography dance at the highest altitude from ground level, marking their achievement in the Guinness World Record.

Susan and Surendra showcased their art on May 19, 2024, or Nepali date Jeth 6, at Kala Patthar in Solukhumbu, Nepal. They set the record at an altitude of 5,441 meters (17,851 feet). By performing a dance at such a high altitude, Susan and Surendra made an ambitious attempt to leave their mark on history.
The choreographer of their dance is Surendra Rai himself. He say, ” I am so happy to choreographed this dance and I am lucky to showcase my talent internationally representing Nepal.”

The song they performed was titled “Man Magan,” which was two and a half minutes long. To support Susan and Surendra’s effort, other team members also accompanied them to Kala Patthar. They were assisted by Saugat Karki in photography, and Sonam KC and Umesh Sapkota in videography.

After successfully setting the record, Surendra and Susan expressed their happiness, saying, “We made this record-breaking effort to raise awareness about the conservation of our mountains and environment, Himalayan biodiversity, and to promote Nepal’s tourism.”

Surendra and Susan conducted this record-breaking attempt with approval from Sagarmatha National Park, Nepal Tourism Board, and Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality, while the event was carried out under the guidance of Chitrakumar Karki, the official representative of Guinness in Nepal.
