Aanbu Khaireni bus accident: Death toll reaches 27

DAMAULI: The death toll in a bus accident at Aanbu Khaireni of Tanahun district has reached 27. The accident took place on Friday afternoon.

The bus with an Indian number plate fell some 200 feet off the road and plunged into Marsyangdi river at Aina Pahara of Aanbookhaireni Rural Municipality-2 along the Prithvi highway.

The bus (UP 53 FT 7623) was en route to Kathmandu from Pokhara.

According to the police, a total of 43 people including the driver were travelling in the bus. Twenty-six people: 15 female and 11 male died at Aanbu Khaireni Hospital and one child died at the Chitwan-based hospital, Tanahun’s Chief District Officer Janardan Gautam confirmed.

Sixteen passengers who were injured in the incident have been brought to Kathmandu in the Nepal Army helicopter for the treatment at Maharajgunj-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), according to the Armed Police Force.
