Taskforce forges consensus in principle on transitional justice bill

KATHMANDU: A discussion was held on the issue of forging consensus on the bill relating to transitional justice in the meeting of the taskforce on transitional justice convened at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Singha Durbar on Friday.

Talking to mediapersons after the meeting, Deputy General Secretary of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Janardan Sharma, also a member of the taskforce, said consensus was forged in principle on the bill.

“We have forged a consensus in principle on the bill related to transitional justice. We will discuss with stakeholders on Monday. An understanding has been reached to give the final shape to it by holding a meeting of the taskforce,” he added.

Similarly, Chief Whip of CPN-UML, Mahesh Bartaula, shared that today’s meeting concluded making a decision of giving final shape to the bill after receiving suggestions of the stakeholders on Monday about the bill, adding the final shape would be given to the bill after holding the final meeting of the taskforce.

He mentioned that consensus would be forged on the bill after making a victim-friendly verdict of the Supreme Court and international laws as the basis.

The report would be handed over to top leaders including the Prime Minister after holding the final meeting after the next meeting.

Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak from the Nepali Congress, Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula from the CPN-UML and Deputy General-Secretary from the CPN (Maoist Centre) are in the taskforce.
