Laligurans Cooperatives’ chairman, treasurer held (With video)

KATHMANDU: Chairman and treasurer of Laligurans Cooperative have been arrested on the charge of embezzling billions of rupees of the depositors.

A team of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office apprehended Chairman Amar Das Shrestha and Treasurer Amrit Kumar Aryal. Earlier on Friday, police had nabbed Chief Executive Officer Surendra Bhandari.

They were nabbed based on the complaints filed by the depositors.

The cooperative has 22, 000 depositors.

Shrestha has been working as the chairman at the Laligurans Cooperative for the past seven years.

Shrestha, who worked in Nepal Bank Ltd for 31 years, was appointed as the secretary at the cooperative in 2004.

Bhandari (46) had joined Laligurans Cooperative in 1999.

Chairman Shrestha, Secretary and CEO Bhandari, Treasurer Amrit Kumar Aryal and Kadam Baba Joshi Pradhan were made public by the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation by organising a press conference on Sunday.

SSP Sanuram Bhattarai, Chief at the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, said that they might have misappropriated Rs 6. 30 billion of 22, 000 depositors.
