MCC Deputy Vice President Brooks calls on Finance Minister Pun
KATHMANDU: Visiting Deputy Vice President of Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), Jonathan Brooks, paid a courtesy call on Finance Minister Barshaman Pun on Tuesday.
The delegation led by Brooks called on the Minister at the latter’s office in Singha Durbar.
During the meeting, the Minister said the government is committed to concluding the projects under the MCC within the deadline. He said he is hopeful of the timely completion of the MCC projects.
Brooks requested updates regarding the progress in the construction of an electricity transmission line and roadways projects implemented under the MCC.
He expressed his satisfaction with the progress.
It may be noted that a 315-km transmission line and a roadway project will be developed within the next five years under the MCC Project.
Under the 400 kV double circuit transmission line stretching from Butwal to Gorakhpur, works are underway to build substations at Ratmate of Belkotgadhi municipality of Nuwakot, Damauli of Tanahu and Bhumahi of Nawalparasi East. This is considered the first largest transmission line in the country. There will be 856 towers under the transmission line project.
Nepal and the US signed the MCC project in 2017 and it was implemented with the endorsement of the House two years back after a prolonged debate and discussion at the high political leadership.
