Former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara released

KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara, who was arrested in a gold smuggling case, has been released on a condition that he be appeared before the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) when needed.

The CIB said that former Speaker Mahara was released due to his health condition.

CIB spokesperson Hobindra Bogati said that Mahara was released in the presence of his son Atom Mahara.

“Mahara was released on a general date due to his health condition,” Bogati said.

He was nabbed from Kapilvastu on March 18.

Stating that Mahara’s health condition was poor

Earlier, the court had directed the CIB to admit Mahara to a hospital citing his health condition. As per which, he was admitted to the Thapathali-based Norvic Hospital.

Police recorded his statement from the hospital on Wednesday and Thursday.

Mahara has not been able to speak and walk properly.

It has been found that he has been taking eight types of medicines regularly.
