Side effect of change in ruling alliance: Lumbini summit postponed
RUPANDEHI: The 4th Laureates and Leaders Summit to be held in Lumbini, the birth of Gautam Buddha, on March 11 and 12 has been postponed.
After the formation of a new coalition at the centre, the 4th Laureates and Leaders for Children: Development and Peace Summit to be organised by the Lumbini Province government has been postponed.
The main opposition CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Centre) have been protesting against Chief Minister Dilli Chaudhary for unilaterally taking the decision to hold the conference and provoking the neighbouring country by allowing the controversial non-governmental organization to hold the summit in the holy place like Lumbini.
Chief Minister Chaudhary has summoned a Cabinet meeting at 11 am today to take a formal decision regarding the postponement of the conference.
The Lumbini Province was going to organise the conference as per the decision of the provincial government and central government made on October 5 and 19 respectively.
Eighteen special guests including 10 Nobel Peace Prize winners, heads of state and former prime ministers of various countries were scheduled to attend the summit.
