10 killed in Kapilvastu bus accident

KAPILVASTU: Ten persons died and 30 others were injured in a bus accident near the Surahi Bridge in Shivaraj Municipality-1 of the district early on Thursday.

The accident took place when the passenger bus (Su-Pa-Pra-02-001 Ba 0098) heading towards Mahendranagar from Kathmandu fell 200 metres down the road at around 1 am today.

According to the District Police Office, Kapilvastu, 10 persons died on the spot.

Six among the deceased have been identified as Narayan Bahadur Bhandari (46) of Aurahi, Rautahat, Arjun Kumar Yogi stationed at Kalijung Batallion, Gorusinghe and Sakilmusalman of Muradabad, India, Rahul Ram Kami (27) of Bhimdutta Municipality-1, Kanchanpur, Umesh Bhandari of Bhumdutta Municipality-4, Kanchanpur and Sanju Thapa (16) of Bhumdutta Municipality, Kachanpur.

Police Inspector Navaratna Paudel said that the injured have been rushed to Butwal for treatment.

The remaining are undergoing treatment at local medical centres including the Sanjeevani Hospital.
