Nepal Army unaware about UN’s decision to withdraw peacekeeping forces from Congo
KATHMANDU: The Nepal Army said that it has no knowledge about the decision of the United Nations to withdraw peacekeeping forces from Democratic Republic of Congo.
Nepal Army spokesperson Brigadier General Krishna Prasad Bhandari said that they have not got the official information about the new decision.
“I also got to know about the new decision from the media. We have not got official information about the new decision from anywhere,” he said.
According to Nepali Army source, the United Nations was planning to withdraw the peacekeeping forces from Congo some time ago.
Meanwhile, the Nepal Army personnel, who were preparing to go to Congo on a peacekeeping mission, have been left confused following the news at the national and international news outlets.
“Our flight was fixed for the second week of January,” an official, who was preparing to go to Congo, said.
A meeting of the 15-member United Nations Security Council on Tuesday unanimously had decided to withdraw peacekeeping forces from the Central African nation.
The decision was made a day before the DRC was preparing to hold presidential and parliamentary elections.
