Sale of tobacco products banned in Kathmandu Metropolitan City from today
KATHMANDU: The sale and use of tobacco products have been banned in Kathmandu Metropolitan City from today.
Metropolitan City Health Department Chief Ram Prasad Paudel said that the sale and use of tobacco products will not be allowed in 32 wards of the metropolis from today onwards.
According to him, the sale, storage and use of tobacco products packed in plastics have been completely banned from today.
Earlier on November 28, the metropolis had issued a public notice stating to impose a complete ban on the sale and use of tobacco products from today.
Those found involved in selling and using tobacco products will be taken action as per the law by confiscating the items, according to the notice.
Department Chief Paudel said that the metropolis has decided to strictly implement the provision of the Act to prevent the effects of use of tobacco products on the health of people.
The metropolis had banned the consumption of cigarettes and tobacco in public places since September 18.
The metropolis has also warned the people not to smoke in public places, airport, public toilets and parks among other places.
Those who do not abide by the instruction will be taken stringent action, the metropolis said.
