We will not remain mute spectator to illegal activities: CDO Basnet (With video)

KATHMANDU: Chief District Officer of Kathmandu Jitendra Basnet said that security has been heightened in Kathmandu to prevent untoward incidents.

His remarks come a day after anti-republic campaigner Durga Prasain during a press conference in Kathmandu said that they would picket Singha Durbar and houses of the leaders of political parties.

He said that issues related to security challenges and putting security measures in place were discussed in a meeting of the security agencies called to discuss security arrangements in the Valley.

Saying that Prasain has not taken permission to hold programmes under the “Rastra, Rastriyata, Dharma-Sanskriti and Nagarik Bachau Andola, at Tinkune, CDO Basnet made it clear that Prasain was not allowed to hold programmes at Tinkune as he made public programmes to cross the prohibited area, damage public properties and picket the houses of political parties’ leaders and attack them.

He said that arrangements have been made as a warning to not allow the group or person to hold programmes without permission and taking the law into one’s hands.

“Two groups had held separate programmes in Kathmandu. One group has decided to continue the protest programmes. In that context, we held a meeting with chiefs of security agencies today to make necessary security arrangements,” he said.
