SC annuls President’s decision to grant amnesty to murder convict Regal (With video)
KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has annulled the government’s recommendation and the President’s decision to grant amnesty to Yog Raj Dhakal aka Regal, murderer of Chetan Manandhar of Nepalgunj.
Responding to the writ petition filed by Manandhar’s wife Bharati Sherpa, a full bench of Justices Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada, Sapana Malla Pradhan and Kumar Chudal issued such a verdict today.
During the preliminary hearing to the writ registered by Sherpa, a single bench of Justice Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma October 5 sought explanation from the government pardon grant to Dhakal.
Justice Sharma also sought all the documents related to Dhakal.
President Ram Chandra Paudel on the recommendation of the government on September 20 pardoned the remaining term of Regal, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Manandhar.
Regal had murdered Manandhar by attacking with a sharp weapon in 2015 in Nepalgunj.
