Police arrest Regal after SC’s mandamus order (With video)

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested Yog Raj Dhakal aka Regal, who was released after getting amnesty from the President.

Police apprehended him from Nepalgunj of Banke.

SP Subash Chandra Bohara told Nepal Press over phone that a team deployed from the District Police Office, Banke nabbed him from New Road of Nepalgunj.

“I got the order from the headquarters to arrest Regal. We detained him from New Road,” he said.

The Supreme Court on Thursday issued a mandamus order to arrest Regal immediately, annulling the decision of the President to pardon his remaining jail terms.

Responding to the writ petition filed by Manandhar’s wife Bharati Sherpa, a full bench of Justices Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada, Sapana Malla Pradhan and Kumar Chudal issued such a verdict today.

During the preliminary hearing to the writ registered by Sherpa, a single bench of Justice Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma October 5 sought explanation from the government pardon grant to Dhakal.

Justice Sharma also sought all the documents related to Dhakal.

President Ram Chandra Paudel on the recommendation of the government on September 20 pardoned the remaining term of Regal, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Manandhar.

Regal had murdered Manandhar by attacking with a sharp weapon in 2015 in Nepalgunj.
