Your Excellency President Xi Jinping
Guests from across the world
Ladies and gentlemen
I am Jhala Nath Khanal, former prime minister of Nepal. It is a matter of great pleasure to find an opportunity to greet you all at this momentum conference, which is a watershed to a new, equitable, prosperous and progressive world order. The journey of this world order began 10 years before with the declaration of the Belt and Road Initiative by President Xi Jinping, heralding a new model of cooperation and collaboration among nations, countries and people across the world. This initiative reinvented the Ancient Silk Road and Maritime Silk Road which connected different civilizations across the world. The invention of the Silk Road provided an opportunity for global people to trade mutually, learn from each other’s values and promote mutual communication and cooperation. In that course, Nepal and China introduced formal communication between the government and the people. Nepal and China’s formal relationship stands 1600 years in history and is remembered as a relation established by Cha ma gu dao (Tea Horse Road), one of the branches of the Silk Road.
Your Excellencies,
The velour of the global relations established by the Silk Road system was destroyed by Western cultural arrogance, racism, colonialism and imperialism. Today, BRI is bringing the velour back, with a vision of a shared future for humanity and inclusive economic cooperation. The rise of the global south and expansion of the BRI across the globe has marked the beginning of new peaceful relations among nations, countries and people and the co-existence, cooperation and transformation of different civilizations of the world today. BRI as a reinvention of the Silk Roads purports that civilizations co-exist, cooperate and transform each other but there are no classes and contradictions among them.
Some western imperialist and hegemonist powers wanted to oppose the expansion of BRI, but no force in the world could stop the development and global expansion of BRI. Thus, it creates new hope among the people of the globe for a better world with a shared future of economic prosperity and coexistence of different civilizations. Nepal has been a part of this initiative, and thus, feels pride of being connected through BRI with the Globe. In this way, ultimately, a new, prosperous and common human civilization will develop in our beloved blue planet.
Thanks for your patience in listening to me.
